In support of the 18-day Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (Anti-VAWC) Campaign from November 25 to December 12, 2023, the Commission on Audit Regional Office IX, through its Gender and Focal Point System (GFPS), conducted an Online Orientation on RA 9262 and RA 11313 on November 28, 2023, and attended by a total of 271 COA RO IX personnel.

Republic Act 9262 otherwise known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 seeks to provide protection to the family and its members, particularly women and children, from violence and threats to their personal safety and security. On the other hand, Republic Act 11313, otherwise known as the Safe Spaces Act and more commonly referred to as the Bawal Bastos Law, aims to provide both men and women equality, security and safety not
only in private, but also on the streets, public spaces, online, workplaces and educational and training institutions.

The salient provisions of both laws were thoroughly discussed by Resource Speaker PSSg Margie C. Bidaure from the Women and Children Protection Center – Mindanao Field Unit, Philippine National Police. The orientation ended with an interactive forum and discussion of common real-life situations and legal processes and remedies involving the application of both RA 9262 and RA 11313.
